OUR PROGRAMS
- VICTIMS OF CRIME ACT (VOCA SERVICES)
Our VOCA program offers comprehensive case management services to child victims and their families administered by dedicated professionals as clients navigate the often confusing and laborious court system. Case managers and program coordinators from our Child Advocacy Center refer clients to appropriate community resources including legal, mental, health, and medical providers to ensure a full array of services and to fortify their support system throughout the judicial process. Clients also receive assistance in filing Victim Compensation Forms, and any other appropriate help, including Parent Aide mentoring.
Other services provided through this child advocacy initiative include supervised visitation, group counseling, support groups, and parenting and anger management classes.
The Welcome Baby Program is a child abuse prevention program which provides information on infant care and child development, the appropriate use of local resources, and the importance of nurturing and bonding with babies. The emphasis of this program is on at-risk, first-time parents who need education and consistent emotional support, which we provide through a trained and caring staff member. Welcome Baby accepts referrals from social service agencies, individuals in the community, and self-referrals. New mothers are visited at home weekly and by phone, preferably during the first six months of the baby's life, when they have questions, feel frustrated, need information, or just want to talk to someone. Welcome Baby may also be able to work with women in their last trimester of pregnancy. No new mother/parent should feel unsupported, and this community-based program has its roots in our agency's founding program, PARENT AIDE.
- INSPIRING FUTURES MENTORING PROGRAM
The Inspiring Futures Mentoring Program, facilitated by the Child Abuse Prevention Center (CAP Center) is committed to preventing child abuse, neglect, and family violence by improving the quality of life for children and families in South Mississippi. A mentee who has an incarcerated parent will be matched with a trained mentor and the two will meet every week for a year. The purpose of this supportive program is Positive Youth Development that will allow these youth reach their potential. If you want to make a difference in the life of a child in a real, meaningful manner, please call our office for more information today (228) 868-8686.
